Uzbekistan remained unbeaten as they beat Tajikistan 3-1 to win their maiden CAFA U-16 Boys Tournament title at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Tashkent on Monday.

The match started evenly as both teams fought for possession in the first half, but Uzbekistan managed to break Tajikistan’s resistance through Ruslan Roziev in the 37th minute.

Roziev doubled the advantage for his team in the 56th minute.

Umedzon Ramazonov provided Tajikistan a lifeline when he found the net in the 75th minute but it was all too late as Zasurbek Zaloliddinov scored the third goal for the hosts, six minutes from time to put the match beyond reach.

Uzbekistan began the tournament with an impressive  4-1 win over Afghanistan in the opening match on Thursday and followed up with a 5-0 win over Kyrgyz Republic on Saturday.

Afghanistan, who won the tournament last year after edging out Uzbekistan 3-2 on the final day, swept past Kyrgyz Republic 4-0 on Monday to claim their second win of the tournament and finished second with six points.

Abdul Ahad Sediqi and Samir Samandari scored two goals each in the first half as last year’s champions led 4-0 at halftime and kept their opponents at bay for most of the second half.

Tajikistan, who will feature in the AFC U-16 Championship Malaysia 2018 in September, finished third in the standings with one point which they earned in a 2-2 draw against Kyrgyz Republic on the opening day.

Kyrgyz Republic finished fourth with one point, behind Tajikistan who had a better goal difference.
