CAFA Referees Seminar & VAR Course 2025 Successfully Held in Tashkent

The city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, played host to the 3rd Edition of the CAFA Referees Seminar/VAR Course 2025, an event in CAFA’s ongoing Refereeing Development Initiatives. Held from 20th to 24th January, this seminar brought together 23 referees from six CAFA Member Associations, uniting under the shared goal of elevating refereeing standards across the region.

A Blend of Knowledge and Practice

The event was structured into two distinct segments to address key aspects of refereeing:

1. Referees Seminar

This segment combined theoretical discussions and practical activities designed to enhance referees’ skills in managing high-level football matches.

The sessions encouraged dynamic interaction and knowledge-sharing among participants, fostering a deeper understanding of critical match scenarios. Fitness tests were also conducted at the UFA Training Field, emphasizing the physical demands of modern refereeing.

2. VAR Course

Building on the seminar, the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) Course was tailored to refine the skills of referees who will operate VAR systems in CAFA competitions throughout 2025. This cutting-edge technology, increasingly vital in football, demands precision and consistency, and the VAR course ensured that participants are equipped to deliver at the highest standards.

Leadership and Expertise at the Helm

The seminar was overseen by Mr. Ravshan Irmatov, the Chairperson of the CAFA Referees Committee and First Vice President of the Uzbekistan Football Association. Renowned globally as one of the best referees in football history, Mr. Irmatov’s leadership inspired participants throughout the event. His deep expertise, combined with that of experienced instructors, formed the cornerstone of the seminar’s success.

Empowering Central Asian Refereeing

The event reflects CAFA’s  commitment to fostering refereeing excellence in Central Asia. By equipping referees with advanced knowledge, practical skills, and access to cutting-edge tools like VAR, CAFA is ensuring its competitions are officiated with integrity, professionalism, and fairness.

This seminar not only strengthens the professional capacity of referees but also reinforces collaboration among CAFA Member Associations, contributing to the broader development of football across the region.

Looking Ahead

CAFA’s Refereeing Development Initiatives continue to pave the way for improved standards in football officiating. With the successful conclusion of the CAFA Referees Seminar & VAR Course 2025, the region is poised to witness enhanced officiating quality in its competitions, contributing to the growth of football in Central Asia.

As the referees and VAR officials return to their respective Member Associations, they carry with them not only knowledge but also a shared vision of refereeing excellence.
