UN General Assembly Supports CAFA President Rustam Emomali’s Initiative to Declare World Football Day.
The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution proposed by the President of the Central Asian Football Association, His Excellency Rustam Emomali, to officially declare May 25 as World Football Day, as 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the first international football tournament in history with the representation of all regions as part of the 1924 Summer Olympic Games, held in Paris.
On February 10, 2024, Rustam Emomali presented the proposal to the UN, emphasizing the importance of recognizing football as a means to promote health, unity, and a healthy lifestyle. Playing football is one of the best ways to foster cooperation among different peoples and nations.
During the plenary session, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution World Football Day, developed and promoted by the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Libya.
The resolution underlines the importance of major international sporting events in promoting peace, mutual understanding, international cooperation, friendship, and tolerance, without any form of discrimination.
The international community unanimously embraced the first initiative of H.E. Rustam Emomali, President of CAFA, to declare World Football Day on May 25.
